Stones Edge Farm is a small Farm located in Midcoast Maine. The farm is set on 27 acres of open rolling fields. We Started the farm in 2002 and mostly cater to horses, Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy goats as well as our two boxer dogs and of course our children. Over the years we have grown adding Tennessee Fainting Goats, Miniature Silky Fainters, and Bernese Mountain Dogs. The animals enjoy the freedom of the wide open space that Stones Edge farm provides. | OPEN FARM DAY JULY 20, 2008 9:00 to 5:00 Stones Edge Farm is well known as the home of Lincoln Counties very first fainting goats. Beyond that the farm creates a great environment for adults and kids to enjoy the interaction with several different types of animals specifically goats and horses. This makes the farm a hot spot for many visitors, especially on Maine State Open Far Day. Open Farm Day is July 20 from 9:00 to 5:00, this will be the Fourth year in a row for the farm, but this year Stones Edge Farm is trying out a new concept. Derilyn Nelson the owner of the farm takes note that the gas is high and the economy stinks so people may be discouraged to drive and see the farms so instead of traveling around to see several different farms why not have them all at one location. Stones Edge Farm is the perfect spot to host this opening event that hopefully will grow every year, there are acres of open fields for people to set up and plenty of space for parking. Derilyn is not charging anything, she just wants people to be able to promote there farms and products and visitors to enjoy everything in one spot, she feels like this will be a win win situation for all. Participants for this years open farm day include Margaret Sproul of Sproul’s farm in Pemaquid Falls who will be promoting the Haflinger horse with harnessing demonstrations and carriage rides around the field. Pine Creations will be selling there bee products and handmade jewelry. Elegant Funk will be selling there reclaimed sweaters and possibly demonstrating how they create them. Darlene Terry of Calm light photos will be here to capture all those picture perfect moments that happen at the farm and for your family while visiting the farm these pictures will be available for purchase on a private online gallery. Fort Lewis Preservation Farm will be promoting and selling there heritage turkeys, broilers, and free Range eggs. Runchkin Hill Farm Breeder and trainer of Irish Draughts and Irish sport horses will be joining us from Brooks Maine and Essex Massachusetts to teach and explain about this wonderful temperament and breed of horse. We are hoping to get more participants over the years and we think this will be just the beginning for Stones Edge Farm, hosting of a community farm event where people can promote Maine made products and or farms, we may even decide to break off and try to make this its own event in the future it would be like a mini fair right here in our community. So please come and join Stones Edge Farm and make this day a great success, you will be greeted not only by us the people but the 80 goats, 30 being newborn kids and several horses including the mini horse and pony foals. Plus we still have one more doe to kid and two horses to foal and they are due around open farm day. If you would like to participate it is not to late give us a call at 207-380-6560 Stones Edge Farm is located near on RT 215 near the intersection on RT 213 there is a farm sign on the road as well as there will be signage posted helping you get here Please take a look at the Get Real Get maine Site for other farms as well as more directions to our farm |
